The Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Counselor Ahmed Abu Zeid, condemned the attack against oil ports in Libya, in which elements associated with al-Qaeda were involved. He indicated that such attacks expose the situation in Libya to serious risks, and threaten to undermine the progress achieved recently, whether at the level of the political process and efforts to reach a Libyan-Libyan consensus in order to break the current political stalemate, or with regard to the economic situation which witnessed recovery signs in the oil sector under the leadership of the Libyan National Oil Corporation over the past months.

Spokesperson affirmed the need not to allow the political process in Libya to be at stake in favor of illegitimate groups, which attempt to grasp a political role through destructive action and external support, and do not mind cooperation with terrorist organizations to achieve their objectives.

Abu Zeid also recalled the statement issued two days ago by the Egyptian National Committee on Libya, which stressed Egypt's adherence to dialogue and consensus-building efforts in Libya, calling for the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State to nominate their representatives to the joint committee which was agreed to be formed in Cairo in order to reach a political solution that would put an end to the current crisis in Libya, stop attempts of foreign interference in Libyan affairs, and provide favorable conditions for the reconstruction of the Libyan State and fighting terrorism.
