The National Coordinating Committee on Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration (NCCPIM) held a workshop on the 1st and 2nd of February 2016 on "The Methodology of Drafting a National Strategy to Prevent and Combat Illegal Migration". The workshop was attended by all NCCPIM members.
The workshop aimed at providing a scientific basis and a reference point for formulating the national Committee's strategy on Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration. The development of the strategy will constitute the main axis of operation for the Committee during the coming months in light of the successful implementation of the first action plan 2014/2015.
Highly qualified Egyptian experts in Strategic planning directed the workshop that was held with an interactive and participatory approach. Committee members were encourage to interact and discuss the basic elements needed to draft a national strategic plan on combating illegal migration.
The workshop succeeded in helping participants reaching a common understanding and created a consensus on the need to control illegal migration through economic, social and cultural development. It was an opportunity for consultations on the defining elements of strength and weakness that need to be developed in order to reach the National Committee objectives. Discussions helped at pointing out to the different opportunities that need to be developed and the challenges that need to be thoroughly tackled while preparing the national strategic plan.
Ambassador Naela Gabr, Chairperson of the National Committee stated that the Egyptian National Strategy for Development 2030 will represent the framework guiding NCCPIM while formulating its National Strategy to Combat Illegal Migration.
The workshop was organized in coordination with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and is the result of the continued cooperation between NCCPIM and international organizations concerned with issues of illegal migration.
