The Arab Republic of Egypt is following with the deepest concern the repercussions of the "khan sheikhoun" crisis, which has claimed the lives of tens of innocent Syrian civilians, as a result of the effect of internationally banned poisonous gases, and the consequent severe implications.

Egypt stresses the importance of avoiding Syria and the Middle East the risk of escalating the crisis, in order to preserve the safety of its people. Egypt also highlights the necessity of working promptly on putting an end to the military conflict in Syria, so as to preserve the lives of the brotherly people of Syria. This shall take place through the commitment of all Syrian parties to an immediate cease-fire, and the resumption of negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations.

The Arab Republic of Egypt calls upon the United States of America and the Russian Federation to act effectively on the basis of international legitimacy, and the capabilities of both countries, to contain the conflict and reach a comprehensive and final solution to the exacerbated Syrian crisis, which has raged on for the last six years, taking heavy tolls on the lives of the Syrian citizens, in addition to the expansion of civilian displacement and destructed areas, in consistency with the responsibility of the two countries towards preserving international peace and security. It is critically urgent to get Syria out of this dangerous downward spiral.
