Foreign Minister receives FAO Director-General

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received on March 9, 2017 the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization, José Graziano da Silva, to discuss means to develop cooperation between Egypt and the FAO, and to maximize Egypt's chances in the field of agriculture as well as establishing agricultural projects in order to bridge the food gap, and to achieve food security in the context of sustainable development.

The Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Counselor Ahmed Abu Zeid, stated that the FAO Director-General affirmed that the Organization is keen to promote cooperation with Egypt in order to increase its ability to achieve food security, with planned initiatives related to this area during the next phase.

Abu Zeid added that Graziano da Silva expressed desire to strengthen relations between the FAO and Egypt, as the country is currently member of the Security Council, while examining the close correlation between food security and the support of international peace and security. The meeting also addressed cooperation between Egypt and the Organization in terms of expertise transfer to Africa, and emphasized the fact that Egypt enjoys considerable experience in the field of agriculture from which African countries aim to benefit.​
