Evaluation of the national Action plan of The National Coordinating Committee on Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration (NCCPIM) 2014/2015
NCCPIM held a seminar on the 12th of January to evaluate the implementation of its 1st action plan (2014/2015) for combatting and preventing illegal migration. Ambassador Naela Gabr, Chairperson of the National Committee presented the main 5 pillars of the action plan: Legislation, documentation, awareness raising, as well as the bilateral, regional and international cooperation.
The law on “Combating Illegal Migration and Smuggling of Migrants” comes at the top of NCCPIM achievements this year, in addition to the two field studies on the on Illegal migration of Egyptian Youth (18-35 years old), and Unaccompanied Migrant Children which their outcomes will direct the drafting of the national Strategy on Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration.
Ambassador Dr. Salah Abd Elsadek, chairperson of The State Information Service presented the media role in addressing the issue of illegal migration and in raising awareness on its risks and alternatives.
Dr. Samiha Nasr pointed out the aspects and outcomes of the field study on the Illegal migration of Egyptian Youth which was prepared by the National Center for Social and Criminological Studies. As for counsellor Mohamed Ibrahim, the Public Prosecution office's representative, he explained in his intervention the main articles of the law on “Combatting Illegal migration and smuggling of migrants which has been recently approved by the council of ministers.
Ambassador Naela Gabr welcomed the support the ministry of foreign affairs is providing to NCCPIM activities on the regional level through both The Egyptian Agency of Partnership (EAPD) and Cairo Regional Centre for dispute resolution and peacekeeping in Africa.
Ambassador Dr. Hazem Fahmy the Secretary General of the EAPD and counselor Hatem Elatawy the Deputy Director of Cairo Regional Centre for conflict resolution and peacekeeping in Africa presented the activities of their institutions aiming at raising the awareness as well as training the Africans officers on the best practices in combating illegal migration.
The seminar was attended by the national entities members of the NCCPIM, in addition to European Embassies and representatives of international organizations, as well as several journalists, representatives of civil society and Academia .
